OOTD - Oh no I didn't buy these crazy shoes!

Reader, I couldn't resist them. I tried, I really did, but they're just too shiny and too high, and too perfect. So, I broke down, ordered them online and here they are --

They're called The Erbes Pump by Call It Spring, and can I tell you they would make me think its spring even in the dead of winter. I actually bought them for this event; if you're a Southern PA local and love Jazz, you should join me there! (And yep, I did that website too :D ) I figured the pump would look classy and also be jazzy enough for the event. I will admit I might need a change of shoes half-way through, but I'm sure going to try.

The other OOTD of my week has been my pursuit of Caroline Forbes hair I've been trying to figure out how much flip is enough/too much. I went in search of a youtube tutorial, and found this really great explanation about how to section hair for Caroline curls. Even though my hair is way shorter than Caroline's I think I got a pretty good version going:

I can't wait to see how it looks when my hair gets a little bit longer. Oh, and yes my hair is a different color.

Casual Fridays - OOTD

Casual Fridays are a staple at my workplace; actually, its one of our favorite perks. And while I love getting to wear jeans to work, I'm always very careful not to go too casual. Now, if you knew where I worked, you might begin to wonder...but in any job, a surprise drop in by a very important person is always a possibility. And the last thing I want is to be remembered as is the "too casual" girl.

I'm sure I have a few of my readers wondering -- why are we doing an Outfit of the Day posting? Yes. This is new for me too. But, with my new found-style blogging freedom -- something I didn't have a few weeks ago -- I though, why not?! And Fridays are always fun days for me to try new fashion things, so I'm trying this OOTD thing out for the next few Fridays. Should we see how it goes?

If you haven't figured this out before, which is entirely possible, I really don't talk about my style often, I'm a huge fan of the Hamptons/nautical feel. I'm addicted to strips and I love navy. Hence, much of what I wear is so inspired. I haven't been feeling all that dapper (ie - that's why I look expressionless in these photos) due to some hideous allergies hitting the mid-Atlantic, so I went for the comfy beach look today.

Shirt & Sweater: American Living, JCPenny; Jeans: Ana, JCPenny; necklace: Sweet Romance; Flip flops: Old Navy
Dark wash jeans are the foundation of my look today, and these ladies and gents are petites. I used to think that longer jeans were a good look, but really, all they did was make me swim at the feet. Now, I buy the right proportioned jean and I feel so much more confident in them. My top is a knit with a wider horizontal stripe. To add the comfort factor, I throw on a very heavy knitted sweater in cream. This sweater is the key to the Hamptons look for me, and makes a casual top and jeans into an outfit. Does it make me look at little thick on top? Well, yeah, but with the sweater itself thicker, I tend to think it balances out. My issue area will forever by my hips, so I tend not to dwell on my top as much. I finish the look with my Edwardian lockets and some blue flip flops and head off to work for the day.

On the blogging note: I'm not sure how much I like that the OOTD is all about...me. LOL. Or if dear reader, you like reading about what I wear. I do follow many more fashion blogs in the background though, so we're still going to try this on for size and see what happens. Don't worry, a more Jane Austen-centered post is on the horizon too.

OOTD - I can't believe I'm doing this

Beware dear reader! This is not a normal Heather post! Well, it will be characteristically Heather; however, it is not about what we normally cover here. Today, I'm doing my first (and probably only lol) OOTD, which stands for Outfit of the Day. Trust me, I am not a fashionista. Sure I love Chanel as much as the next girl, and shopping, and most of the time I try to coordinate my colors, but on the whole, my fashion posts could never be a fantastic as Casee's or Anika's. (Who, by the way, have totally sucked me in to fashion blogs.) I do though, have a little fashion story to tell you today.

A few days ago Anika (whose blog is always so inspiring and fun to read) posted a piece about the nude fashion trend. I have always been a fan of this trend. I love the light pink hues of it mixed with soft and dark greys. Somehow, I think its not so far away from my staple South Hampton nautical feel. Wanting to follow this trend is actually the reason I bought this particular dress from H&M. Sort of. Unlike the other piece I'd bought that same day (a thin stripe blue dress), Mom talked me into this one. She loved it. And she loved it so much, I thought "hey, it might look good; I'll just get it."

And you know what? It sat. It sat in my closet for 3 months. Every time I put it on, thought I'd wear it to work, I took if off. I thought it looked too childish or too frumpy. Says something about buying clothes you don't love, right?

Fridays are casual day at work, and yesterday I just seemed to not care. I put caution to the wind, threw on a white tank under it, put jeans on and went to work. And go figure! I got more compliments yesterday on the shirt/dress than basically any other outfit I've ever worn. I was so surprised, so shocked, that my thoughts about the dress ran in contrast to everyone else's, that I just had to tell Anika and thank her for giving me the final little push I needed to wear the nude-pink dress out of the house. I finished it with these shiny little shoes and made a fashionista for the day.

O! And I figured, why waste a great shot of my desk?! Yep. That is all the #REsense info on the white board. Yep. I do have a Lord of the Rings sword on my wall. My Keep Calm poster? What you can't see is that the line ends: And stay pretty.
